Overview
Lingua is a real-time voice conversation partner for language learners, practicing through live roleplay scenarios like ordering coffee at a café, with instant pronunciation feedback and a personal vocabulary vault that grows with every session.
The Challenge
Most language apps rely on multiple-choice drills that don't translate into real speaking ability. We wanted learners to actually speak and listen in real time, at a specific proficiency level, without the latency or awkward pauses that usually kill voice-AI products.
The Solution
We built a low-latency voice interface on a real-time speech model, with scenario-based roleplay, live transcription, and a personal word bank that automatically saves and scores phrases the learner struggles with. Level selection adapts vocabulary and pacing to each session, and recommended phrases keep the conversation moving when a learner freezes up.
On mobile
Lingua was designed mobile-first, since most of its real-world usage happens on a phone screen.
